So Why Such a High Price Tag For the Samsung UN60ES8000?

Searching around the internet provided us with an indication for the Samsung UNES8000 best buy. This should be in the region of $2200 - $2800, which does not really justify the price tag being offered by Samsung, maybe because we were used to S.Korean goods supposed to being much cheaper than their competitors. When first catching glimpse of the Samsung UNES8000 your imagination quickly races to imagine a futuristic scene from Star Wars or some other space fiction movie. The slim design and appearance of the Samsung UNES8000 blows you away – but so does the price tag! As you struggle to regain your senses you take a closer look at the 60” 1080p 240Hz 3D Slim LED/LCD HDTV, which is even presented in a silver finish. Apart from marvelling at its beautiful design, you also notice 4 pairs of 3D glasses, a touch-pad remote, the best Smart TV platform around and voice and motion command. What could possibly be more heavenly than the Samsung UNES8000?

Endemic Samsung Black Color-Blindness Ruins the Day

Just as we are about to orgasm, we switch on the Samsung UNES8000 and witness some of the worst renditions of the color black that we have ever seen. Dark grey might be more appropriate and we have are seriously starting to convince ourselves that Samsung may be a tad color-blind, at least when it comes to the color black! Apart from this key deficiency, the Samsung UNES8000 later convinces us that, although features are great, there is no need to pack them all like sardines and expect them all to be useful. Before we throw too much mud at the Samsung UNES8000, however, we must ring their praises for the stupendous accuracy in colors, top of the range 3D technology and brilliant video processing.

As we mentioned earlier the Samsung UNES8000 tv comes jam-packed with accessories and features, maybe just a little too many for our liking. What’s worse, these do not appear to work as designed, most of the time, which is irritates even the calmest of people. Take the gesture and voice control. We are not great lovers of this technology, quite simply because, like 3D, nobody has yet got it right. These things should still be on the drawing board but we are used as guinea pigs to vent our frustration and then something is changed. So expect lots of frantic waving and animal grunts to get your voice and gesture controls to work! We forgot to mention the presence of another accessory in the Samsung UNES8000 – the IR blaster, which you can connect to your DVD/Blu-ray player or cable box for supersonic sound. However, again, this extra rabbit in the hat did not perform as admirably as expected. One thing we really liked about the Samsung UNES8000, is the wireless WiFi access points it provides. Just remember to insert a security PIN unless you want the whole neighbourhood camping out on your front lawn!

What to Say, What to Do?

We are not keen on thrashing any product during our review but, with all the hundreds of appliances out there, you have to become rather selective and point fingers where it is due. In the case of the Samsung UNES8000, we have to rant our disappointment at a product that had all the potential to make it to the peak but got buried by an avalanche of its own defects, mainly the lack of blackness, too many accessories and gizmos that weren’t meant to happen before another few decades.
